Incorrect records 'a problem'

PREGNANT women have been warned that the issue of incorrectly marked medical charts is a "major problem" that goes unreported.

Dr Mary Favier, chair of education for the Irish College of General Practitioners, said that instances of missing or incorrect information was common.

She said that in most cases doctors were very busy while some were simply poor note keepers. Nevertheless the issue could cause significant problems.

"It's very difficult to quantify, it only becomes apparent when there is a problem," she said.

Her advice to pregnant women was to check with their doctor when they were taking notes.
