Thousands of men, women and children will take to the streets to raise funds for Breast Cancer Ireland later this year.

The official launch of the ninth Great Pink Run with Glanbia and Avonmore took place yesterday.

The huge event, which features both the 10K challenge and the 5K fun run, will take place in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, on October 19; Kilkenny Castle Park, Kilkenny, on October 20, and at Diversey Harbour, Chicago, on October 5.

Last year's event attracted more than 8,000 runners, joggers and walkers, from babes in arms up to 83 years of age, who raised more than €500,000 for the cause.

Athlete Sonia O'Sullivan and her daughter Sophie O'Sullivan were on hand to help launch the run.

Also there were celebrities Elaine Crowley of TV3, former rugby star Shane Byrne and James Patrice of RTÉ.
