Inspirational Dubliners are finally getting the recognition they deserve thanks to a new art project.

The Local Heroes project, created by the Dublin City Council Culture Company, aims to shine a light on some of the people who play such a vital role in the community where they live. Seven artists created "portraits" of 20 extraordinary Dubliners.

Among the heroes is Pat Garry, a teacher at Liberties College and a stalwart of the local community.

Another is Ellie Kisyombe, originally from Malawi, who spent eight years in direct provision and who co-founded a pop-up cafe in response to the ban on asylum seekers cooking for themselves.

Also featured is Jamie Harrington, from Ballymun, who runs a homeless dinner service with his mother.
