It pays to take a Christmas punt on the racing style stakes as mother-of-three, Gillian Gilbourne gleefully discovered.
Gillian from Millstreet, Co Cork almost didn't come to the third day of the Leopardstown winter racing festival.
But her last minute decision to go ahead with her original plan to wear a Donegal tweed two piece she designed herself turned out to be a triumph in the keenly contested Cliff At Lyons style stakes.
Gillian walked away with the €10,000 first prize of a style safari of three luxury VIP weekends at each of their Irish resorts – Cliff House Hotel in Ardmore, Waterford, Cliff Townhouse in Stephen’s Green, Dublin and Cliff at Lyons in Celbridge, Co Kildare.
Gillian's peplum tweed jacket and longline skirt was accessorised with a Marc Millinery hat with pheasant feather, white shirt with jabot, cream patent Amy Huberman heels and vintage gloves and bag.
The outfit was made by a polish dressmaker near her home and the family's love of the hunting 'n' fishing county look was clear when they are jubilantly joined mum in the parade ring.
Runner up prizes were Louise Allen from Slane, Co. Meath, Geraldine Shalvey from Dublin, Tara Hanniffy from Newbridge, Co. Kildare and Faith Almond from Co. Carlow.
Adriaan Bartels, General Manager of Cliff said ‘We are delighted to joinwith Leopardstown Christmas Festival for the Cliff at Lyons Style Stakes. he response to the event today has been immense, the style was unique and classic and we look forward to a long partnership with our friends at Leopardstown Racecourse’.
