I'm victim of sickening campaign, claims Lowry
INDEPENDENT TD Michael Lowry claims he has been subject to an "organised, concerted and vicious" media campaign for 17 years, which has been "sickeningly intrusive".
Mr Lowry, pictured, was speaking in the wake of controversy over a taped conversation between him and Northern Ireland-based land agent Kevin Phelan.
The conversation took place on September 30, 2004, but a transcript of it was published in recent weeks.
A sum of Stg£250,000, which Mr Lowry says he paid to Mr Phelan, is central to the colourful conversation. And he claimed to be the victim of a campaign for the past 17 years.
"Sections of the media are running an organised, concerted and vicious media campaign," he said.
"For some people in the media, the 'topple Lowry' campaign has become an absolute obsession. For 17 years, I have been the subject of intense scrutiny.
"It has been ever-present, It has been mind-bending harassment and, to be quite blunt about it, it has been sickeningly intrusive."
