Hundreds of shoppers had to be evacuated from IKEA's flagship store in Dublin this evening.

The Swedish furniture store has since reopened and the incident was declared a "false alarm".

An IKEA spokeswoman said it was down to a "technical issue" and added the company would be making no further comment.

It is not known what the technical issue was.

Customers had to abandon their items at the till after the evacuation was ordered.

"One hour picking out stuff and we had to leave just as we got to the till," one shopper wrote on Twitter.
