Iconic store in capital to relocate

One of Dublin's most iconic shops is moving after 76 years due to high rents and rates, writes Bairbre Power.

Richard Alan's rent on Grafton Street has trebled since 2005, sparking the move to the basement of nearby sister shop Pamela Scott.

"This along with the economic downturn has proved to be a heavy drain on the finances of the group and we are viewing this relocation as a positive step," said director Scott Barron.

Richard Alan is owned by Flairline which has 23 Pamela Scott stores nationwide. The new--look store opens on Thursday and gowns from the same Irish designer who dressed Oprah for the Oscars will be among the attractions.

The range from Don O'Neill, includes his gold Theia gown, which costs €750.
