IF you’re going to film footage of Storm Ophelia wreaking havoc across the country, don't film while driving - that's the warning from Gardai after they caught a new driver taking the risk in Dublin.

A learner driver was caught red-handed when he took his phone out to film members of the force clearing a fallen tree in Stephen’s Green east earlier this afternoon.

Eagle-eyed gardai spotted him and issued the new driver with a notice.

A Garda spokesman said: “He’s going to face a bit of justice. These are the dangers of driving. A road traffic offence will be considered which may result in a trip to court.”

AA Roadwatch has advised motorists to "drive with extreme care".

Spokesman Conor Faughnan said: “Wind-blown debris is likely to be a problem on secondary roads in particular. Keep in mind that high-sided vehicles are especially vulnerable on open roads.”
