Hundreds told of 'sports car win' in Lotto site glitch
HUNDREDS of people were mistakenly told yesterday morning they had won a luxury sports car, writes Luke Byrne.
'Human error' was blamed for a Lotto website glitch that informed any prize winner -- from €2 to €2,000 -- that they were the new owners of a €150,000, Jaguar XK convertible.
The car was part of a special 'bonus prize' promotion for the jackpot winner in Wednesday's draw.
The sole winner of the €4.4m jackpot, on a ticket bought in Centra, in Borris, Co Carlow, netted the luxury car.
However, thanks to the website error, anybody holding a ticket that won any other amount was also greeted with a message congratulating them on winning the car.
The error affected only those who used the online facility to check their numbers
Lotto headquarters insisted that disappointed customers would not be compensated.
