Hundreds pay respects to dad shot on holidays

HUNDREDS of people gathered last night to pay their respects to a "gentle giant of a man" who was shot dead while on holiday in Spain.

Father-of-two John "Jock" O'Neill (41) from Bunratty Drive, Coolock, Dublin, was gunned down at a bar in the Costal del Sol resort of Benalmadena last month following a row over the use of a toilet.

Mourners packed St Joseph's Church in Bonnybrook, Dublin, for Mr O'Neill's removal which was attended by his partner, his parents, Angela and Hugh, and his family.

"Perhaps tragic loss is one of the greatest crosses to bear," said Fr Frank Duggan.

Mr O'Neill and his partner Maxine, who have two young children, had organised their holiday in Spain to coincide with a friend's wedding. He will be buried at Fingal cemetery today following funeral Mass.
