Human remains discovered in a wooded area in Meath
GARDAI have launched a major investigation after human body parts were found in a wooded area at The Mayne, Clonee, Co Meath.
It is understood that an arm and part of a shoulder were discovered at around 4.30pm this afternoon. It was discovered by a passer-by out walking.
Gardai in nearby Ashbourne were called in to investigate.
The area has been sealed off, pending a search operation which is due to being at first light tomorrow morning.
The body part is still at scene and it will be removed later to the morgue in Navan.
Sources have indicated that gardai are working on a theory that the remains belong to a man who has been missing for a number of weeks.
Gardai will begin a search in the morning to determine whether there may be other body parts in the area and the Garda Water Unit could be called in to search a nearby stream.
A Garda spokesman said: "We have no further information at this stage, searches will continue at first light tomorrow morning."
