HSE writes off €8m in vaccines

THE HSE has written off almost €8m worth of stock in out-of-date bird flu vaccinations, accounts audited by the C&AG have revealed.

More than 900,000 doses of the vaccine, Pandemrix, were administered by the HSE during the H1N1 outbreak between 2009 and 2010.

At least 779 adverse reactions to the drug have been reported, including up to 30 cases of narcolepsy in young people and it is no longer recommended for use in Ireland.
