HSE changes come on line
AN overarching body officially took over the running of the health services as part of a major overhaul of the Health Services Executive.
Health Minister James Reilly has signed into law a number of changes to the governance of the HSE, with the replacement of its board with the Health Service Directorate.
This gives the Government more direct control of the health services.
One of the minister's key executives, Tony O'Brien – who has been in place since last year – now formally takes on the role as director general of the HSE and the chair of the directorate.
