Howlin insists pay-deal 'No' means 7pc cut

PUBLIC Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin has again warned state workers their pay will be slashed by 7pc if the new Croke Park deal is rejected.

There has been speculation that the Government might opt to cut services instead of wages if the new deal is rejected.

But Mr Howlin again threatened a 7pc pay cut for all staff – and clearly ruled out cutting services in health, education and social welfare as an alternative.

"There's enough pressures on those areas. . . So we really do need to make these reductions on the wage side," he said.
