January 14: John travels to Ireland on the same flight that carries his wife's coffin home. He had refused to leave the island without her.

January 15 and 16: A public wake is held in Michaela's family home.

January 17: Michaela is buried in her wedding dress after an emotional funeral at St Malachy's Church.
