Hotel cancels contentious child pageant
A HOTEL has cancelled a booking by a US firm to stage a contentious child beauty pageant in Ireland for the first time.
Texas-based Universal Royalty Beauty Pageant had only divulged in recent days that it planned to stage the pageant at the Bracken Court Hotel in Balbriggan, Dublin, amid fears it might be marred by protests.
However, the Bracken Court Hotel last night confirmed it cancelled the booking made by the organisers to stage the event on September 21.
"The organisers did not identify the true nature of the event . . . and an event of this nature is not in keeping with the family ethos of the business," it said.
Organiser Annette Hill has said she found it difficult to understand the concerns that were expressed by some.
However, it was not possible to contact organisers last night.
