IT MAY not be native but the exotic-named 'Himalayan Rejuvenation' helped land a picturesque Co Kerry hotel a coveted spa award.

The Spa at Aghadoe Heights Hotel, overlooking the lakes of Killarney, was named 'Spa of the Year' at the 'Irish Tatler' awards.

General Manager Marie Chawke said it had been a "huge team" effort on behalf of the entire staff of the hotel, which nears 100 at high season.

"When times were tough we didn't make any drastic cutbacks in the spa. We have a fantastic team of people," she said. "The hotel is there since 1967 and some of our staff have been with us for 40-years or more."

It was the 'Himalayan Rejuvenation' treatment that it offers that landed the 'Best Treatment' award with the judges, in addition to the Hotel Spa of the Year award.

Monart Destination Spa, Enniscorthy in Co Wexford, won the 'Destination Spa' for the fifth year in a row. Laura Ryan, the White Horse Spa at The Lodge, Doonbeg, Co Clare, was named 'Best Therapist'.
