Horse smashes head through car window

A MAN and his son had a lucky escape after a horse galloped into the side of their car.

Al O'Dwyer and his son Evan (12) were out for a drive on the northside of Cork city when a horse ran into the side of the car, its head smashing through the front passenger window.

Speaking yesterday, Evan's mother Deirdre O'Dwyer, who lives with her husband Al and two children, described the incident as a "horrendous ordeal".

"If I had been sitting in the front passenger seat I would have been killed," she said.

She said the problem of roaming horses needed to be urgently tackled before someone was killed.

Gardai are investigating the incident, which occurred around 9.30pm on Friday.
