Hook: Pat move bravest in history of broadcasting
PAT Kenny's defection to Newstalk "is the bravest thing that has ever happened in broadcasting", according to his new colleague George Hook.
The presenter of 'The Right Hook' said the 65-year-old veteran took a gamble after a career at the state broadcaster spanning more than 40 years.
"I think Pat's move is the bravest thing that has ever happened in broadcasting because he's a smart guy and Pat knows the size of the problem," he said of the battle for radio listeners.
"The odds are 50/50 as to whether he'll succeed or not. If he had stayed at RTE he might have earned less, but he's 65 years old, he's got a 41-year track record, he could have kept going like Gay (Byrne).
"Here he's coming to a station that has not proven its ability to deliver an audience," he added.
However, it won't be until February 2015 when the radio listenership figures are released that we will see Kenny's impact.
