High-profile editor to address first NNI Journalism Awards
ONE of the most colourful and high-profile editors of the past decade is due to address the inaugural National Newspapers of Ireland Journalism Awards.
Simon Kelner (53), former editor of London newspaper 'The Independent', will address the first ceremony on October 27 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Dublin, where a series of awards including National Journalist of the Year will be presented.
"He is one of the most successful and talked-about editors of his generation, and some of the bold decisions he took at 'The Independent' have actually shaped today's newspaper landscape," NNI chairman Paul Cooke said.
"This is NNI's first journalism awards initiative and it's fitting that an editor of Simon Kelner's stature will be there when we honour this country's finest writers, critics and commentators," he said. "I'm sure he will have some very interesting things to say about the past, present and future of our industry."
Mr Kelner took over as editor of 'The Independent' in 1998 and remained there in a variety of different roles until earlier this summer.
The closing date for entries for the NNI Journalism Awards is Friday, September 16.
