High-fliers seek to build family homes

Emmet Oliver

A group of high-powered businessmen is seeking planning permission for a major new housing development.

Citywest Ltd, owned by a group associated with Davy Stockbrokers, wants to develop a 4.3-acre site in west Dublin.

In an application to South Dublin County Council, the company is seeking approval to build 60 new "family type'' houses at Brownsbarn, Kingswood in Dublin 24.

The main backers of Citywest are stockbrokers Kyran McLaughlin, Brian Davy and businessman Brendan Hickey.

The application states that the area already has enough apartments and shops, but that Dublin is now experiencing a change in the housing market with more demand for family homes, over apartments.

"Given the large quantum of apartments in the county, the proposed house types will add to the housing mix in this area," the company states. Such family homes will "satisfy the changes in demand in the housing market,'' it added.
