An Independent TD has criticised Taoiseach Enda Kenny for agreeing to meet with Donald Trump, calling the US President "a misogynist, a liar and a sexual predator".
Independent TD for Waterford, John Halligan told Claire Byrne on RTÉ Radio 1 that he disagrees with the meeting.
"I don't think the Taoiseach should go. I think we're dealing with an individual who promotes division, hatred and he's hostile to the free press. He's a misogynist, he's a liar, he's a sexual predator where he boasted about how he can sexually assault women. Why would we deal with someone like that?"
Solidarity TD Ruth Coppinger asked Mr Halligan about the power the Independent Alliance were able to exert in Government.
"We speak our mind and we did bring it up at Cabinet. But there were only two Ministers that opposed him going and we did make it quite clear for the very reasons that I’ve given you. We already have very strong connections with members of the Republican party and the Democrats.
"I didn't necessarily think that we needed to meet this guy."
