Henry goes for €143k

A CENTURY-old painting by artist Paul Henry depicting a woman on the Achill Islands has changed hands for more than €143,000.

'Achill Woman' sold for €143,082 at Sotheby's in London.


Gardeners making the most of the good weather were warned to be aware of the dangers after a significant increase in injuries from lawnmowers.

Padraic Regan, a consultant plastic surgeon at University Hospital Galway, revealed that he had dealt with a large increase in hand injuries this week as a result of lawnmower and strimmer injuries.


DEALS between banks and distressed mortgage holders must allow more money to be reclaimed if a borrower's financial circumstances improve, the governor of the Central Bank has said.

Patrick Honohan said his preference was for "split mortgages" which would see the amount owed divided into two. Speaking at the Institute of Bankers, he warned deals had to be fair to both the borrower and the bank.
