Nursing home household manager Julie McNeela at Aras Mhuire Nursing Facility in Drogheda, Co Louth

The new St Brigid’s Day public holiday today has its origins in the Government’s decision to do something to recognise frontline workers’ sacrifices during the Covid pandemic.

It was announced on the same day as a once-off public holiday and Day of Remembrance and Recognition to honour these workers and those who died last year.
