Tribunal to be held in private for victims of CervicalCheck scandal
The Government is expected to proceed with plans for a tribunal for the victims of the CervicalCheck controversy, the Irish Independent understands.
Health Minister Simon Harris updated Cabinet colleagues on the Government's response to recommendations outlined by High Court Judge Charles Meenan.
Justice Meenan was tasked with examining alternative routes for women affected by the scandal to avoid adversarial court proceedings.
He recommended a tribunal be set up to hear and determine claims arising out of the controversy. Hearings would be held in private and be less formal than court proceedings, under the recommendations from the judge.
Mr Harris is expected to outline details of the plans for a tribunal once the women and families of those affected by the scandal are fully updated.
