Teens help HSE to catch rogue sunbed operators
Undercover volunteer teenage girls are helping the HSE catch rogue operators who are selling sunbed sessions to minors.
New figures from the HSE show that last year it ramped up its enforcement activity in the sunbed industry deploying under-age teenagers - mainly girls - on 47 test purchase inspections.
Five operators were found to be selling sunbed sessions to under 18s.
Over the past three years the HSE said it has recorded 69 infringements by sunbed operators who were caught selling session to underage teenagers.
In the same period the HSE found sunbed operators made 111 infringements relating to bogus health claims about sunbeds, for example claiming "this sunbed is a safer way of tanning".
