Hospital bosses are to review CCTV footage as part of their investigation into claims a heart attack patient was turned away because he did not have a GP's referral letter.

Staff members at St Columcille's Hospital in Dublin will also be interviewed as part of the probe requested by Health Minister Simon Harris.

Management at the hospital has been asked to provide a report to Mr Harris surrounding the events of last Wednesday week.

A man in his 50s claims he presented himself with chest pains to the hospital but was told he needed a referral letter from his doctor in order to be seen.

He then claims he took a bus to his hometown of Bray in Co Wicklow where he collapsed with a suspected heart attack.

The man has since undergone successful surgery and is said to be doing well.

Details of the case were highlighted by Sinn Féin TD John Brady.
