Families have been warned that they have just days to grab some of the best health insurance deals available in the market.

A number of good-value offers are coming to an end on Tuesday - the last day of the month.

Thousands of families are due to renew their healthcare cover at the moment.

However, if you break out of your healthcare plan before a year is up there are financial penalties.

A family will be able to save €400 by signing up for one of the little known Aviva corporate plans before Tuesday, according to Dermot Goode of

He said that anyone who is due to renew their cover at the moment needs to consider the deals that about to be withdrawn.

"Many of these will finish on September 30, and consumers need to act quickly to grab some valuable cost savings," Mr Goode said.

He recommended Aviva's Be Fit 2.1, an obscure corporate plan. This scheme gives refunds on a range of medical expenses, such as GP and consultant visits. There is an excess of €150 for private hospital stays per admission.

But Mr Goode said a family of two adults and two children can save €414 if they sign up for this before Tuesday. The total cost for a family will jump to €3,129 after that.

Laya Healthcare is offering half price offers for children and students on its Essential Connect Family scheme. A family with two children will save €308 by opting for this plan in the next few days.

VHI's has a range of offers, with these available until the end of October, Mr Goode said. There are half-price offers on 91 plans.

A family of two adults and two children will save €420 on Health Plus Extra, or €360 if they opted for their corporate plan, PMI 36 13.

Mr Goode said: "Don't forget, you can split your cover if you wish, by leaving the adults on Health Plus Extra and insuring the children on PMI 36 13 for the day-to-day cover."

He said GloHealth permanently offers free cover for children under the age of three on most of its mid-level plans and higher-cost plans.

And the company is offering half-price offers for child cover on two new of its new plans, Better Choice and Best Choice.

On the Better Choice scheme all children under 18 will be charged €136. This could save a family with two adults and two children €272.

"For a family with four young children, with two under three years old, they would save a staggering €842 by putting the youngest on Better Plan and the two eldest on Better Choice," Mr Goode said.

Many consumers were throwing their hard-earned cash away by not shopping around prior to their renewal date, the boss said.
