An Irish Cystic Fibrosis campaigner has shared her relief after no longer having to rely on an oxygen supply after a successful double lung transplant.

Orla Tinsley (30) underwent the life-changing operation in New York just before Christmas after previously being called about a potential transplant six times before those organs were found to be unsuitable.

The Kildare-born journalist shared a photo of several oxygen cannisters on her Twitter account and said she is happy she will no longer need them.

She said: "Today I am nine weeks post Transplant and thinking of my donor. Today I said goodbye to my o2 collection.

"Here is just 5 day and worth not including overnight.

"Bye bye, baby! #beatcf #posttransplantlife #recycleyourself #organdonation."

Ms Tinsley has tirelessly campaigned to raise awareness about Cystic Fibrosis and to improve services for people with the condition.
