An outbreak of the winter vomiting bug has been reported at Beaumont Hospital.

Patients who believe that they may have the virus or symptoms of the flu are being asked to attend their own doctor instead of going to the hospital.

The  symptoms of Norovirus are nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea.

Beaumont Hospital has put in place visiting restrictions as a preventative measure to help contain the outbreak of the virus.  One visitor only per patient per visiting period is permitted, while children are not permitted to visit in any circumstances.

In recent days, Beaumont Hospital said it has experienced increased pressure on services including the Emergency Department, exacerbated by an outbreak of Norovirus.
