JOHN GLENNON died at Tullamore Regional Hospital, Co Offaly, on October 27, 2021.

His nephew John Glennon (40) and his wife Karen Glennon (42), from the deceased's hometown of Rhode, Co Offaly, were able to bid him farewell. It was some consolation during a time when so many people did not get to say goodbye to loved ones in a fitting manner.

But it was still a devastating blow for the couple – who at one stage had lived with Mr Glennon – and his many friends who miss him terribly.

Karen Glennon told the Irish Independent: “He was a pure gentleman. He never said a bad word about anyone.

“He was one in a million and was loved by everyone who knew him. He was so thoughtful and nice and there were grown men crying at his funeral.”

While Mr Glennon never married, “he was married to the Rhode GAA club”, she said.

“It was his life and he really and truly loved Rhode.”

Along with being a “massive” supporter of his club and county GAA teams, Mr Glennon was also the press officer for Rhode GAA, and he was well known both on and off the pitch.

“He was at every match,” said Karen Glennon.

“He had a huge number of friends and even if you went to the end of America, people would know his name.”
