Happy holidays recalled in treasure trove of photos
HOLIDAYS often provide us with our happiest memories and our collectable magazine series ‘Irish Lives’ has some fantastic photos of good times.
The series concludes tomorrow with the focus on ‘Holidays and Outings’, featuring a treasure trove of images from our archives – and from our readers who have scoured their own family albums for favourite pictures.
Few places in Ireland have a stronger hold on our imaginations than Dublin Zoo.
On that subject, broadcaster Pat Kenny takes a walk down memory lane as he recalls his father Jim’s role as elephant keeper at the zoo and his own happy childhood memories.
Elsewhere, Pat’s RTE colleague Joe Duffy recalls warm memories of St Patrick’s Day parades and other spectacles which his family loved attending.
Irish summer family holidays used to revolve around a trusted clutch of seaside resorts and Damian Corless takes us through the list of old but not forgotten favourites such as Courtown, Tramore and Ballybunion.
We were overwhelmed by a huge number of entries for our Canon camera competition and the choosing of three winners was an exceedingly difficult task.
Don’t forget that in tomorrow’s paper you can also see a fantastic set of readers’ pictures – from holidays and days out that were enjoyed down the years.
‘Irish Lives’ – only in tomorrow’s print edition of the Irish Independent.
