The couple killed in the Tunisia massacre were “waiting around” on the beach for a bus to the airport when the terrorist opened fire. The family of Larry (56), and Martina Hayes (55), pictured left, from Athlone, Co Westmeath, have spoken of their devastation after the couple were brutally gunned down as they strolled along the seafront.
They died just hours before leaving after a week-long holiday.
It was the third time Larry, a CIE bus inspector, and Martina, his wife of 32 years, had holidayed in the area. Mr Hayes’s brother, Michael, said the family was struggling to come to grips with the tragedy.
Meath mother-of-two Lorna Carty was also killed in the attack, which left 38 dead.
