Aspiring journalists will have an opportunity to study at Dublin City University under this year's Veronica Guerin Memorial Scholarship, applications for which close soon.
The scholarship, funded by Independent News & Media, commemorates the Sunday Independent investigative reporter, murdered in 1996, who had served on the governing body of NIHE/DCU.
The winner of the bursary will receive €8,500 to cover fees and general expenses for enrolment in the MA in Journalism in 2013-2014.
Applicants should propose an outline of their intended major project or dissertation that is on a topic or in a format relevant to the memory of Veronica Guerin. This, for example, might be a series of investigative features for print or online media, an in-depth radio documentary, or a study of the practice and role of investigative journalism.
Information on the MA in Journalism degree, including detailed application requirements for the scholarship, is available on the DCU website.
Applications should reach Dr John O'Sullivan, Programme Chair, MA in Journalism, School of Communications, Dublin City University, Dublin 9, by noon on April 22.
