'Grounded' hits heights with top book prize

Writer Sheena Wilkinson, right, has won the 23rd CBI Book of the Year Award for her novel set around a tough housing estate in contemporary Belfast.

'Grounded' tells the story of Declan, a teenager who loves horses and dreams of becoming a showjumper but is struggling to escape his roots.

Judges said the novel was "a powerful, unsentimental account of a teenager trying to cope with a series of unexpected responsibilities".

It also won the top award from school and library reading groups. Both prizes were presented at the National Library in Dublin yesterday.
