Greek drama proves to be no great tragedy
THE Leaving Certificate covered a spectrum from ancient Greek drama to modern building design yesterday afternoon with exams in construction studies, classical studies and Latin.
Construction studies' students were "happy", according to Noel Scott, from the ASTI and Loreto Community School, Milford, Co Donegal.
He said it was "quite a topical paper with a modern feel".
However, Leaving Certificate classical studies higher level candidates hoping to do battle with Alexander the Great were sorely disappointed.
Jim O'Dean, of the ASTI and Rathdown School, Glenageary, Co Dublin, said students would have been expecting a battle question to have been included.
In Greek drama, a question asking candidates to discuss the use of irony in 'Oedipus' was regarded as a bit unusual.
There was nothing particularly unusual about the higher level Latin paper although the question on mosaics was described as hard.
