A decision which will have significant implications for notorious killer Graham Dwyer's bid to overturn his murder conviction and criminal investigations generally will be delivered today by the Supreme Court.

Seven judges have been considering an appeal by the State against a December 2018 High Court ruling that legislation used by gardaí to access Dwyer's communications data contravened EU law and an international human rights convention.

The Cork-born architect is seeking to rely on the High Court ruling in a separate appeal he is taking against his 2015 conviction for the murder of childcare worker Elaine O'Hara. The much-anticipated Supreme Court decision will be given today at Waterford Courthouse.
