Graduation is just what the doctor ordered
Three generations of the one family who graduated with medical degrees from UCD stood proudly on the grounds of the famous campus yesterday.
Grace Kenny held her parchment with pride as she joined her mother Geraldine McCarthy (left), who graduated from the medical faculty in 1981.
Her grandfather, Donal McCarthy (right), who graduated with a medical degree from UCD in 1947, was also present.
The medical school in University College, Dublin, can trace its roots back to the mid-nineteenth century.
The school was seen as one of the great early successes of what was then known as the Catholic University.
By the end of the century, it had become the largest medical school in the country.
After 1908 it became the Medical Faculty of UCD - and continued to expand.
