Government offices close in pay row
REVENUE and agriculture offices will shut this morning as lower-paid civil servants take industrial action over the Budget pay cuts, writes Anne-Marie Walsh.
Up to 13,000 members of the Civil, Public and Services Union are expected to withdraw counter services at public offices around the country.
They will also operate a ban on phones at the two departments in the afternoon, along with members of the Public Services Executive Union.
Yesterday, the civil service unions withdrew counter services at the Department of Justice's public offices, including the Garda National Immigration Bureau. Civil servants also refused to carry out counter duties at garda stations, although officers ran a skeleton service. They have already curtailed services at passport offices during the national work-to-rule which could lead to administration gridlock.
