Government launches first ever strategy to look after 187,000 carers
THE Government has launched the first ever strategy to look after the 187,000 carers in the state.
The aim is to ensure that carers are provided with as much support as possible by the health services and other state agencies.
All Government bodies will have use the strategy for their future planning and policies.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny said it would provide the opportunity to improve on a range of issues for carers.
“The publication of this strategy marks a watershed moment in the State’s recognition of and support for carers, valuing their continued commitment and contribution to their families and to society,” he said.
The 28-page strategy was also welcomed by Junior Minister for Older People Kathleen Lynch, who praised her civil servants for delivering it in the space of less than a year.
“It sends a strong message to carers that Government recognises and values their selfless hard work and compassion, which enhances the health and quality of life of thousands on a daily basis,” she said.
