IT WAS racing’s equivalent of a royal wedding, two of Ireland’s greatest racing families, tying the knot yesterday in style.
Jockey Nina Carberry wed Ted Walsh Jnr in Rathoath Co Meath in front of the crème of the Irish racing circle, including Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary who flew in from Spain and joined Ireland international Leo Cullen, trainer Noel Meade and the groom’s brother Ruby Walsh and dad racing pundit Ted Senior and the bride’s brother Paul Carberry.
Nina left her jockey’s silks at home for the day and wore a stunning cowl draped white silk dress with lace capped sleeves as she was given away by her dad horse trainer Tommy.
The wedding reception was held in a rather unorthodox venue – Tayto theme park in Ashbourne in Co Meath. One wedding guest told the Irish Sun: “It is an unusual venue for a wedding reception but the facilities were great and the craic was mighty.”
Nina has declined to say if she will take the Walsh family name, but the jockey isn’t planning a honeymoon anytime soon – she is back in the saddle this weekend
