Give us details on road project jobs, say builders
CONSTRUCTION industry insiders yesterday said they were unable to estimate how many jobs would be created in road building unless the Government provided more detailed figures on spending.
Under the stimulus package, the three major road projects given the go-ahead are the N17/N18 Gort to Tuam, due to begin next year, the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy (26 km) and the N25 New Ross bypass (13.6km)
Transport Minister Leo Varadkar said the transport proposals would create more than 10,000 jobs.
The Government estimates between 10 and 14 jobs would be created for every €1 million spent.
But the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) said estimated spending totals for each project were needed to gauge how many jobs would be created.
