'Give Norris a chance, whatever you think of him' says TD reporters

INDEPENDENT TD Maureen O'Sullivan has called on TDs and senators in a position to support David Norris to do so, despite how they feel about him.

"There has been a groundswell of public opinion and annoyance that David can't stand and they should think about giving him the opportunity, regardless of how they feel about him politically or personally," Ms O'Sullivan told RTE's Morning Ireland.

"When David withdrew from the race, it was over for him at that stage. But it is public opinion and the people who have been contact with him that has made him reconsider."

She said it will be difficult for him to get the support of 20 TDs and senators he needs to stand in October's election.

Mr Norris is expected to confirm his intention to re-enter the race when he appears on the Late, Late Show tonight.

In relation to the emergence of Fianna Fail Senator Labhras O Murchu as a potential independent candidate Ms O’Sullivan said that while it was a matter for Fianna Fail there should be enough TDs and Senators to give both candidates an opportunity to stand.
