A 26-year-old woman from Rwanda who featured on the Trócaire box 13 years ago visited a school in Dublin to thank pupils for their support.

Josiane Umumarashavu lost her father, sister and two of her brothers during the genocide in Rwanda.

She was photographed as part of Trócaire's 2004 Lenten campaign. Through donations to the charity, Josiane's family benefited from farming equipment.

In 2015, Josiane graduated from university and now works for Trócaire. She visited St Colmcille's National School, Knocklyon, to meet with children.

"I still have a copy of the photograph," she said. "It makes me very happy to think that people in Ireland saw my photo and thought about Rwanda."
