Girl (13) airlifted to hospital after getting into difficulty off Sligo coast

A 13-year-old girl has been airlifted to hospital after an incident off the coast of Strandhill, Co. Sligo.

The young girl had been surfing with four others when she was cut off by the tide at 1pm today.

A Sligo lifeboat and helicopter were deployed to rescue the five surfers.

The girl is believed to have taken a lot of water during the incident, and she was transferred to Sligo Regional Hospital by helicopter.

Her current condition is unknown.

It was one of six incidents that Malin Head Coastguard responded to on Thursday.

An 87-year-old man was also airlifted to hospital after he fell off a ride-on lawnmower and suffered severe neck injuries. His condition is also unknown at present.
