A 11-year-old girl is in serious condition in hospital after she was struck by a car in Dublin on Thursday evening.

The young girl was injured after she was struck by a car as she was crossing the Sallynoggin Road at approximately 6.20pm.

The accident happened near the Noggin Inn pub in the town.

She was brought to Crumlin’s Children's Hospital where she is receiving treatment for her injuries.

She remains in a serious condition.

The car involved in the accident, a wine coloured Audi, remained at the scene while gardai made technical examinations.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 30s, was uninjured.

It is understood the incident was captured on a CCTV camera from a nearby business and gardai have accessed the footage in order to ascertain the exact circumstances of the collision.

The road is currently closed and Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are at scene.

Local diversions are in place.

"We don't know how she is yet, we're waiting for news," a family member told independent.ie.
