Gilmore says garda whistleblowers can be asked to give evidence
TDs are fully entitled to invite the two garda whistleblowers at the centre of the penalty points controversy before an Oireachtas committee to give evidence, Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore says.
It comes after Justice Minister Alan Shatter described the allegations made by the whistleblowers about the quashing of penalty points as "seriously inaccurate and without any foundation".
Mr Gilmore was questioned on the penalty points report in the Dail this morning and said the two gardai could be asked in before the Oireachtas Justice Committee.
The Tanaiste was questioned on the issue by Sinn Fein's Padraig Mac Lochlainn, and said: "The Oireachtas committee is free to invite in the two garda officers concerned."
