IT was an eyesore -- but one village has come up with a novel way to transform its unsightly ghost estate.

It took a Tidy Towns committee, a conceptual artist and about 57 creative students to turn the Cul Fadda estate in Sneem, Co Kerry, into an outdoor art exhibition.

Sneem resident Jochan Gerz came up with the idea. Mr Gerz, who is originally from Germany, enlisted the help of art teacher Joe Thoma and his students from Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine in Kenmare, plus volunteers from the Tidy Towns committee, and they set to work.

The result is an unique exhibition, 'The Eyesore Show 2012 ... Where Has the Tiger Gone?'

The exhibition will be opened by Arts Minister Jimmy Deenihan on Saturday and will continue throughout the summer.

Secretary of Sneem Tidy Towns Committee Dr Patrick Malone said the students were asked to come up with something that reflected their own views on the death of the Celtic Tiger.
