The elderly and the unemployed are among those benefiting from basic internet training.
Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte yesterday handed out some of the first certificates awarded under a new internet training scheme.
The BenefIT 3 programme is aimed at targeting segments of society at risk of being left behind by technological advancements.
Those encouraged to take part include the unemployed, socially disadvantaged, elderly and people with disabilities.
Mr Rabbitte congratulated the trainees in Maynooth, Co Kildare, on what they had achieved.
The scheme is designed to give people basic, practical internet skills.
