Getting a Handel on festival for composer

IT was all aboard the Jeanie Johnston yesterday as cast members of the upcoming Irish production of 'Handel's Crossing' turned out in full costume in Dublin's Custom House Quays.

The play, starring Alan Stanford and Caitriona Ni Mhurchu, will be performed on board the ship to mark the 250th anniversary of George Frideric Handel, the composer with legendary connections to Dublin.

In 1742 the composer had granted Dublin the privilege of hosting the worldwide premiere of his most famous oratorio.

Our picture shows Alan Stanfrod as Handel, Caitriona Ni Mhurchu who plays Susannah Cibber, Kathy Rose O'Brien who plays Margerie Powers, and Aaron Monaghan who plays Peter Le Bond on board the Jeanie Johnston.
